Last of the Good Old Boys

© Joe Muldoon

Well Billy’d be shy... little girls would cry, call `im
Mr Country Saturday Night.
Wherever he`d be playing everybody sayin’.
The kid’s alright.
Well he could sing `em like Willy, he could write `em like Hank, we had a
Lotta local fans that you could take to the bank.
He was so damn good in the back of my mind
I figgered little Billy’d have to leave us behind, so….

Here’s to the last of the good old boys
Nashville’s got you now.
I knew from the start you’d be up on the charts,
Have to get away from here somehow,
Now you’re out on the road, for miles and miles,
With a big old bus, and you’re rollin’ in style,
But when I hear them tunes it makes me smile,
Because Nashville’s got you now.

We finished up a show, packin’ to go.
Just about ready to ride.
Then a Nashville suit looking real cute
Can we step out side.
Then a big old man in a big black car,
Said “Come here cat, gonna make you a star.”
When Billy said “What about these boys of mine?”
He said “Sorry but the band’s already signed.”

Now we’re a local hit cause we caught a little bit
Of Brother Billy’s fame.
When he’s playin’ near he’ll be stoping by in here
Back from where he came.
While his band is sleeping’ in the back of the bus.
Comes for a while and just a jammin with us,
At the end of the night with that shyful grin,
He’s gotta listen to the tune that we did for him.
